How To Write A Great Post That Readers Will Poll

There is always a better way to do anything. Same goes with writing. I experimented a bit and I have come up with a research paper. I will share the findings later in this post.

Writing a great post doesn't ensure that you will be rewarded with lots of polls. There are more than 10 posts daily and they call for reader's attention. Readers have limited time, getting polled is tricky, but it takes just hard work and open mind to master this art.

Given that you have written the first draft in your own flow and you (tried to)use the right sentence structure, proper grammar and correct spelling, here are few points to master the art of getting readers ...

1. Title
Title is the first thing that readers see about your post before reading it. Title appears as heading when people share your post on their Facebook wall and on twitter. There is a famous writing quote that "you should spend half your time on writing and half on choosing the right title". This is where your creativity and wit comes in.

Title should be interesting, creative, funny and should somewhat related to the post.

2. Attractive starting
In the first few lines you should be able to arouse the curiosity and interest in reader to read it further. First few lines also appear in social shares and when Google show your post in the search results. This is the second thing after title by which readers will decide weather or not they are going to read the whole post.

Don't reveal too much but show a trailer.

3. Simplicity and flow
Post should be written in a way that the reader just flow with the flow and need not apply too much brain while reading just to understand what you mean to say.

Say it in simple language, you may use beautiful words.

4. Image rich
Everyone likes beautiful things and images make your post beautiful. There is a cover image and the images which you can add in the post. Use images to give impact to your words. Find out great images and use them wisely.

5. Proper formatting
I have seen many posts where there is just one single long paragraph. It just repels the reader and makes it difficult to read. Avoid it. Break down your post in small parts and use the change of paragraph whenever the context shifts.

There are few options available to give more impact to your post such as bold, italic and underline. Use them whenever you think there is a need. There should be 'a' space after every full-stop.

6. Verbose
Re-read your sentences and weed out any unnecessary words. Keep your sentences short and to the point. This will add to the delight of the readers. Also keep your spellings correct and avoid making grammatical errors, this is very important. You have ample time to correct and learn in this process. Make most of it.

7. Minimal Deviation
Often when we write we tend to wander around with our thoughts and forget whats the point we are trying to make. Read your post twice and you will know that you have deviated. To convey your message correctly is an art and its very useful in all aspects of life. It makes you a better person.

This is the part where you can actually engage with your readers and start a meaningful conversation. Ask for the feedback and put your questions for readers to think on the subject. Also thank them that they took their valuable time to read your work.

Have patience and work on your post before publishing, but don't wait too long, because you won't be able to publish it from your grave.
