chapter 2 : Trick Or Treat?
A Chapter by ArabellaMortimerHendry

" A cold but firm hand caught her mid-fall and pulled her back. Shocked she looked to the side of her to confront the stranger. Looking back at her was a man not much older than herself. "

" Your teacher really told you that someone was killed?" Maria asked after a moment of disbelief. Not wanting the story to scare the girls Maria then insisted on the teacher making it up, saying that " People like to scare other people at this time of year! I would not pay much attention to the story."

With that said and the girls minds at ease, they continued with there Trick or Treating. Thankfully no-one threw eggs at them or were mean to them. An hour into the Halloween festivities, Elle and Jessica"s "candy pots" were filled to the brim with boiled sweets and chocolate. As they started to walk away from the main area of the town, the girls chatted away as they ate there sweets. They talked about witches and goblins and all things mysterious. While they did so Maria checked the time on her phone, not wanting to be late dropping them off. They were in perfect time it had only just turned half past six.

The majority of children that had been running about had gone home now. to say the neighbours were relived would be an understatement. The darkness of the night was drawing in and so Maria decided that it was time to take them to Pam's. There was a lovely smell of bonfire smoke in the air, which made the evening have more of an autumnal feel. The street lamps lit Maria, Elle and Jessica"s way for a short while. It was only when they reached the very end of town that all light disappeared. Maria was the sort of person who did not mind the dark. However she could not help but think of the tramp whilst they made there way around the corner to the entrance.

Maria,s encounter with him had been short, but it had left an imprint on her. Making her realize that she had been so sheltered from the true world in which she lived in. Even though it was quite a frightening experience Maria felt sorry for the tramp.

Not wanting to scare the girls she did not say anything about it. " Are you afraid of the dark Maria?" coughed Jessica as she started to tighten her hold on Maria"s hand. Glancing down at Jessica"s candy pot she noticed that it was already half empty. Maria tried to remember if she had been so greedy when she was there age.

" No Im not and you should not be either! Why! no sensible person would dare cross paths with us tonight! you see... You and your sister are the most powerful witches in the world! Who could turn anyone into toads if you wanted to!" After many years of baby-sitting them Maria knew how to intrigue them. Maria remembered what it was like to be there age and scared of the dark. And so the best thing to do was to occupy them with fanciful ideas about them being witches.

The trio entered the park blissfully unaware that someone was watching them. Someone that time had forgot. It is said that when we are born into this world we are still deeply connected to the spiritual realm in which we came from. Over time the connection fades and then eventually does not exist. The connection only remains if we keep in touch with our roots , which not many people do. And so readers technically the most unaware out of the trio was Maria.
