Dim silvery light from the moon enlightened the small locality. As the loud crowing of the roosters started to fill the atmosphere, houses began to slowly light up, signaling the waking up of the villagers of Gros-Billiot.

In the last hours of the night, the vast cloudless sky was still filled with twinkling little stars of different colors.Among them, the full moon beautified the sky further as it hanged over there like a distant giant floating light-ball. Cool breeze chilled the surrounding, giving anyone goosebumps the moment he stepped out of his warm house. Hardly any animals wandered about at this hour of the day, though it wasn't surprising to see a few bats flying.

At about five o'clock, the 'azaan', which is a call for Muslims to come to accomplish morning prayer, was heard. It was the usual voice of uncle Ahmed, whose daily duty was to give the 'azaan' in the huge mosque, which is found right in the middle of the village of Gros-Billiot. At the same time, the bread seller started to deliver hot loaves from gate to gate, while also horning loudly to inform the villagers of his arrival.

About fifteen minutes later, several Muslims, some wearing jeans or khakis and long-sleeved shirts, while others dressed in their traditional long white robes, walking slowly toward the mosque. A few others preferred their cycles or motorcycles,as the may happen to live somehow far away from the huge ancient building.

By the time the prayers were accomplished, finally appeared the first ray of sunlight invading the village with a golden beam of light. The previously eye-catching moon, and suddenly to be distant and paler. The chirping of the sparrows accompanied those of the crowing of the long-awakened roosters. A dozen of villagers hurried to bus stop, in order to catch the first bus of the day to get to work in time. Radios were switched on and old Bollywood songs could be clearly heard.. As for me, I settled behind my desk to tackle with my daily foe:HOMEWORK.
