In India we have always respected women. Where women are honored even the gods are pleased and where they are not every action is a waste.
Nowadays some festivals like Karva-Chauth has lost its essence and is taking a toll on womanhood. The shocking news is she is disrespected, ill-treated, abused, beaten. The very famous festival 'Karva chauth' has a custom of women keeping fast all day long without having a drop of water. With full excitement, they wear new clothes, apply henna and pray for their husband's well being. Strange that there is no such custom which men have to follow.

I was angry, stressed, sad, infuriated when I read the newspaper article reporting crime against women where men exploited them for not following the tradition and customs. Man tried to kill his wife who refused to fast for him on the occasion of 'karva chauth'. She refused to fast for his long life. He retaliated by pouring phenyl down her throat. He asked his wife whether she had been fasting or not. She told she wants to, but cannot since she has to go and run the shop. The angry husband went to the bathroom, got phenyl bottle and poured its content down her throat. What a disgrace!

Shocked! That such customs if not followed leave women to be exploited and men not giving a shit about it. This society poses values on us when they don't even know what those values should be. Women are human beings and have as much right as men to develop and to express. To decide what they want and what they don't. The fact that we are human beings is infinitely more important than the physiological peculiarities, which distinguish us from one another.
Both men and women are individual who requires the other as a complement. The fact that a man has tried to kill her wife on an occasion such as karva chauth astonishes me. I am not able to digest it.Sad!
I wonder will the plight of women ever change. Will mentality of men ever change?
