There have been growing instances of rape in our beautiful land.A land so beautiful that it doesn't respect a girl child, doesn't nurture her and doesn't protect her.Its too horrible to describe a rape scene.Much has been said about the subject and as is always the case,no actions have been taken regarding it. Rapists move like bravery award winners, glaring at the high and mighty. That sense of fear, one which makes us humans, is sadly, missing in them.
Let's admit it.Life isn't easy for the women folk in the country. They are ridiculed for wearing short clothes while boys can wear that freely, they are forbidden from going out in the night while boys can go and they are considered 'ideal' if they remain confined to the four walls of the house. The thing called 'gender-equality' exists only on paper. They are stared at while they work, people create visual images of them and start raping them in their minds. The masculinity oozes out, albeit,in the wrong directions. The horrifying shame that follows a rape victim is even more shocking, police folks treat her as a rag to be thrown around, the society shuns her as if its a dust that will damage their clean persona and even the family members turn against her. I ask, what is her fault in all this?? Can't she go out by walking on the legs that god has given her? Can't she watch a movie or work in the office? Can't she play her favourite sport? Can't she just live her dream?
Many a times, the heart does give up. Just because no one supported it and pulled it out of misery. The mindset change is just a little thing. We need a whole societal change.Engaging in debates leading to confusing solutions isn't the way to move forward,we need action points to help our awesome women-folk.Their lives are a blessing for all of us, let's help them to regain their place in the society.
