The Indian economy with its myriad complexities challenges the very roots of our country. Unemployment of various forms poses a severe threat. Census 2001 reveals that 58.2% of Indians are between the age groups of 15-60 and amongst them 6.30% are unemployed. These figures are indeed scary. Pragmatic solution for this issue is vocational training. Vocational training though non academic; endorses practical knowledge thereby making them industrial friendly. Skilled laborers are of dire need to developing India. Vocational training has an extensive reach .The benefits of it are much regarded. Much of vocational skills are ubiquitous in nature. A survey by ASSOCHAM* says there would be a deficit of 40million working professionals by 2020. Vocational training if implemented aptly would bridge this gap of demand and supply of skilled professionals. The amassing manpower our nation possesses would be counterproductive if not trained in a right way .Vocational training centers are the temple gates for the dream of India being an economically sovereign nation.
