Part 1
Both of my parents used to go to their offices at 10 A.M. and came back at 5 P.M. When I was in 9th standard I used to sit near front window of my house at 3 P.M to watch TV after returning from school. I loved watching outside through window rather than watching T.V. There was this girl ‘Neha’ who had completed her graduation, used to work after 3 P.M in kitchen.

So one day I was doing the same after returning from school and saw that Neha was waving secretly to a guy (Sameer) who recently shifted in a house with his family. His house was in front of her house. Sameer was smiling and replying her with hand gestures. I didn’t know much about him. Mobile phone used to be chimera that time so they had no other option other than talking with hand signals. Neha was beautiful and each aunty in the colony used to gab about her beauty. Some days passed, they started talking a lot with hand signals and I was happy watching their love story. One day I saw her father who was a police constable coming from a distance so I thought if he would see her talking to Sameer then he could end their love story.

So I immediately called her landline number from my landline phone. So she went to her drawing room to pick the call . She was yelling “hello” but I chose to be silent. Soon I heard his father’s voice on phone. He was asking “who is on the phone?”
“No one is speaking” Neha told his father. Then I cut the phone. Later that night his father came to my house, I was very terrified. I thought he might have ‘Caller ID” on his landline phone and came to ask what made me to call his landline phone for 7 frigging minutes.

“What did the police uncle say?” I asked my mom when I saw him leaving my house. “Nothing, He came to give wedding card of Neha.” Mom replied. I was kinda relieved after hearing that he didn’t tell my parents about the call but when I read the card I felt bad because there was no ‘Neha weds Sameer’.

Part 2
I was going restless. There was only one thing in my mind that what would happen the following day. I didn’t even know whether Sameer knew about the wedding or not. I bunked the school next day and I was on the window as soon as parents went to their offices. Around 2:45 P.M. I saw both of them on window. Neha was looking little down that day so Sameer was trying to cheer her up by dancing crazily on a Bollywood song. After some time of usual chat, Neha threw a piece of paper through her window. I immediately saw Sameer running towards her home to collect it.

After that day, they didn’t get time to chat because her house started flooding with her relatives & guests due to the wedding. I thought they might elope before the wedding but they didn’t. Neha was looking like Aishwarya Rai of the movie Devdas with all heavy make-up and jewelries on her wedding day. I looked at her future hubby and thought that Sameer was 1000 times better than this man with paunch.

I felt tremor in my heart when I saw Sameer going towards the stage. He went up on stage and wished both of them with sign language. Neha thanked her in sign language too. I walked close to stage when Neha was telling his husband that he was Sameer and he is deaf-mute. I got numb after hearing that. After a few days I got a chance to talk to Sameer and soon we became friends. He showed me the letter Neha gave it to him. I read the letter and cried after coming back to home.

Sameer

I never had any guy friend in my life. Right from the childhood, my parents were very strict and conservative. Sameer, you made me feel angelic in these 2 months. I have never laughed this much in my whole life. I’m going to marry end of this month. I wanted to tell you this before but couldn’t courage to tell you. You can understand that I can’t go against my family to marry you.

When I first saw you waving towards me from your balcony, I thought you are some kind of jerk but when I was not replying to you, you showed me the paper on which you had written “I’m deaf-mute, I can say ‘Hi’ by just waving my hand”. I just want to tell you that you are not a deaf-mute person because you can talk and listen to someone’s heart. No one else can do this in this world. You will not be with me in my future life but if I have a son, I will name him ‘Sameer’ after you.

Neha
