As I gaze upon the setting sun,
The wind carrying foreign scents my way,
A strange figure appears before my eyes.
He asks me if I'm content
With what I've done in life,
and if I may ask for a second try.
Who was this shadow of a man?
What did he mean by another chance?
I wasn't sure, indeed.
He promised me success in all my previous failures,
and joy where there was not,
and I hesitantly agreed.
Lightning running through my nerves,
My spirit rising from myself;
the stranger now appeared to hold my soul.
All I saw was darkness,
Hearing his terrible laughter,
Before I managed to regain control.
When I restored my consciousness,
My eyes seemed to deceive.
There stood what appeared to be another me.
My memories faded away;
All except this one:
The day that I lost who I used to be.
The stranger, before parting,
Approached both me and myself,
and spoke the last thing that I heard him say.
"The two of you shall forever walk
In the shadow of your actions,"
and I watched the strange finally fade away.
