One fine evening I was walking down an ATM located near my house. On the way there was a coaching institute, but by 8’O clock the classes were over and the lone parking space was having only one scooter. A young fellow having keys in his hand was trying to do something, but what? Probably he was trying to unlock the scooter, I guessed. I found nothing unusual unlocking the scooter, I ignored him and went on my way to the ATM.

Five minutes afterwards, when I returned I found the same guy tussling to unlock the scooter. There was something wrong, I surmised. I resolved to watch him through a distance; hence I did not give up and continued walking pretending that I haven’t caught him doing anything. He called me out to help when I surpassed him. I turned around and looked at him; he didn’t seem me a suspect anymore.

“What happened?” I asked him.

“I need your help sir,” he stammered while he said. A strong gust of foul smell confirmed my doubt, he was drunk. “Can you unlock this scooter, I am little drunk,” the dangling figure pleaded me for mercy.

With a perplexed state of mind, I got the keys from him and unlocked the scooter. A benevolent smile on his face silently acknowledged the gratitude in lieu of my help. The unlocking solved all his worries and with the easy push button he turned on the ignition and drove away.

“Oh my GOD! What I have done,” I muttered. I unlocked the scooter for a drunk and instead advising him not to drive I allowed him to go, bare and drunk in the dark. I realized the blunder that I just had made. Perhaps I had opened up the path to his demise, the horrifying thought shivered down my spine.

The unlocking incident turned out a nightmare and I could barely sleep that night. The next morning I scanned every inch and corner of the newspaper to check if there was any news on accident about a drunk scooter driver. I explored almost every local newspaper of the city to confirm and at last I took a deep sigh of relief and thanked the almighty for saving his life.
