The Upanishads, like the great world religions, assert that there is continuity of life after death and that rebirth is one form of that continuity. But remember and remember that this is a mere postulate, an assumption that is taken on faith. No evidence is provided or no arguments put forth in these first books of spiritual knowledge. In Kathopanishad, Yama says to Nachiketa that even the gods do not know the mystery.
