Why do we force people in the competition? Jise jo karna hai, apni icchha se bas karne do!

So, how come this thought suddenly struck me? In my office, for diwali celebrations there’s this bay decorating and traditional wear competition. And one of my colleague is being forced by his teammates to wear kurtas on the celebration day. Of course, if you have not guessed it already, his teammates are all females. Being a female, I should not criticize any particular intent. However, the point to be made is if someone wants to do something whole heartedly, it’s good, which must of course be done! But please, grow up. For this stupid competition, you are putting your colleague again in an uncomfortable situation. By the way, to tell you, he had joined office only few months back and before that, he rarely used to talk to girls. So you must just understand his predicament.

So, now the point is has competition really changed our perceptions? Without it, would not we have enjoyed more? If one wins, he/she is at the top of the world. But what about the others who don’t? And mind it, there are many more in number of such failures. I don’t condemn competition for everything. Of course, there should be for certain things. Say for example, competition for college seats for there are not enough seats in good colleges. Competition for election seats for jaise bhi ho, the elected personnel at least do something good for the people, lest they take us, the common masses for granted.

However, for things that may truly interest us. The hobby. The mundane things of life. Should there be that? I did not like Student of the Year but there too such a message was there. As how a competition destroyed so many friendships. Of course, you may argue with me that all were not the true friendships. I would not deny the validity of your argument. But then, would not both of our points stand by each other, and still be called valid, or in better terms, two sides of the same coin?
